Q: Should I use a brush or roller

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Neighbor! We'd advise brushing the stain into your wooden surface. A roller is fine for larger areas to cover. If there is extra stain, gently dab it off with a cloth. Try not to over apply the stain though.

Q: Used 56502A on my covered porch. Do I need to strip the old degraded coat off to apply a new coat. The directions are super vague. Also, could you improve the labelling on the can to make it easier to find what I need the first time?

Originally posted on olympicstains.com

  • A: Hello, I would recommend doing a water test before applying any stain on top. Drop some water on the porch and see if it absorbs into the wood. If it does, then you can apply another coat. If it sits on top, then the deck is not ready for a new coat yet. I would still recommend using a deck cleaner and sanding before applying a new coat.

I used this on a small outside wood deck. It worked very well, easy to apply and dried evenly. The color was also very nice. A good product and I would use again. Would recommend this product to others.

Poor Color Control In Gallon Size

I bought 3 of the gallon size transparent Cedar Naturaltone. The project was a large 12x40 deck and had to be done in two stages. The deck flooring is one year old. Two of the gallons were matched. The third was applied in the second stage to complete the deck. gallon looked like it matched when it was applied. However after drying it was obvious that it was not the same as the other two. The tint was off. I've had to buy an additional gallon to redo the second portion of the deck. I didn't buy the 5 gallon bucket because I didn't need 5 gallons. Maybe that would done better colorwise. However, it is obvious that you can't depend on Olympic to have quality control on individual gallons.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great stain!

The best stain! We used this for our outdoor deck in Dallas, Texas and it worked great. Easy to use, low smell and so far the stain still looks new after all the sun we receive in Texas, we had over 100 days of over 100 degree temps.

Yes, I recommend this product.
