Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for all ranges & breeds of horses We have used this feed for many years as it remains consistant in its nutritional value & makeup. They like it & its easy for even my oldest 27 yr old horse with teeth that can no longer be floated can easily eat. I feed drafts & quarter horses & burros .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for older horses! This senior feed is great! I have an old horse who was having trouble keeping weight on. I tried several different senior foods that didn't seem to be helping him much at all. When I put him on Nutrena SafeChoice Senior Feed he started putting on much needed weight for the first time in about a year. He has been on it for several years now and is doing good. I would highly recommend this feed to anyone with an older horse who has trouble keeping weight on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing horse feed My 31 year old Arabian loves this feed. He looks half his age on it. I still show him in lower level dressage and no one believes he is 31.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great feed for hard keepers. We have a 25-year-old saddlebred who has no health problems but he has been very thin. We were giving him Purina Senior. He was being fed a large amount of feed twice a day, but we just couldn't keep his weight up. I switched him to Nutrena SafeChoice Senior Horse Feed two months ago and he has put on around 65-75 pounds on the same amount of feed. His feet are improving and so is his coat. He looks and acts 10 years younger!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've had wonderful results with this Sr. food. My retired barrel horse is 31 yo & looks more like 5...except for her graying face. Ha! Was offered something new & improved recently & showed them a pic of her & politely declined. Why fix it if it ain't broke.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thanks SafeChoice and TSC. I have cutting horses and started using SafeChoice eleven years ago. This past winter I noticed my horses ages 18 and 23 were really starting to fall off. The 23 year old mare had lost about 300 pounds. I was talking to a salesperson at our local TSC and she recommended I try the SafeChoice Senior. The results were amazing! They have been on the Senior for 6 months and they are both back to normal weight. Their coats are shiny and both are more active.
Date published: 2019-07-25
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Consistency My 19 year old mare does very good on this feed as well as our 24 year old pony. Both look great and feel great! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the feed isn’t consistent in texture and smell. Some bags seem fresher and smell better than others. I always look at the dates to be sure it isn’t old.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great feed My horses gained weight with this feed and didn’t with other feeds. I am also able to maintain their weight better with this feed. Price keeps going up on it though and that’s why a 4 instead of a 5.

I just started senior with bad topline on this feed and wondered how long till I'll see a difference in his topline. He'd been on 4 qts of producer pride sweet feed so I know that this feed is much better! Also, can I feed him less b/c nutrena is so much

Asked by: Mustangirl6
Hello, Thanks for the question, and we're excited for you to see results in your horse's topline! It will take about 60 days to see an improvement, so stick with it! Be sure to take some "before" pictures, to help you see the progress. In regards to how much to feed, please look at the feeding directions chart on the tag attached to the bag, and feed your horse the correct amount for his activity level and body weight (or you can use the feeding rate calculator found here for easy math: https://www.nutrenaworld.com/product/safechoice-senior-horse-feed). We suggest weighing how much fits in your scoop, as every scoop can vary - and the SafeChoice Senior won't weigh the same per quart as the previous feed you were using did, either - it's not just about volume, you need to know the actual weight of the feed being given per day. Let us know how he does!

I have a 38 year old that has cushings, but needs to gain weight. Would this be an ideal food for him to eat, or do you all have another product that would work better?

Asked by: taylor48
Hello, Thanks for the question. Yes, you can feed the SafeChoice Senior horse feed to your horse - it will suit his needs perfectly. You will want to feed according to the directions for his body weight and activity level, and ensure you weigh how much is in your scoop that you feed with to ensure the proper number of pounds is being fed per day. If you have the ability to feed him the correct daily total across multiple meals, this will aid in keeping the per-meal starch and sugar intakes lower, which can help with management of his Cushings as well. So even if you can do three meals instead of two, that is helpful.

Hello! My senior horse has been on this feed for about 3 weeks and looks amazing! However it's a bit expensive and I'm wondering about your triumph senior. What are the disadvantages and advantages to triumph senior vs safechoice other than it's cheaper?

Asked by: Wondering0
Hello, Thanks for the question. SafeChoice Senior will have all the advantages over the Triumph Senior - it is higher in fat, contains our proprietary Nutri-Bloom Technology, which improves fiber digestion up to 15% (i.e. they get more out of every bite of feed), has more guaranteed amino acids for better topline, and guaranteed levels of prebiotics and probiotics, as well as Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids. While you would save per bag with Triumph Senior, you would lose out on all those benefits that SafeChoice Senior offers - and you won't be able to get Triumph Senior at Tractor Supply, either. Hope that helps!

I am going to try and get my 20 yr old QH bred this spring and would like to know if this would be a good feed to put her on to add some weight. She is kind of a picky eater and right now is probably a BCS of 5. She is getting free choice alfalfa now

Asked by: Bob95683
Hello, Thanks for the question. Yes, this would be a great feed to utilize to help her put on some weight! We offer a satisfaction guarantee on all our Nutrena horse feeds, so if she won't eat it, you can return it to the store for an exchange or refund.
