Q: Why can't these be welded ?

  • A: Hello, we do not recommend welding the Hillman SteelWorks Zinc-Plated Solid Steel Rod as heating the zinc coating creates highly toxic zinc oxide fumes. Thank you for your inquiry!

Q: Is this sturdy enough to be used for adjusting garage door torsion springs?

  • A: Hello Flaybob, While we cannot recommend this item for your specific project due to safety measures, our strongest smooth rod would be Tractor Supply item # 3584663, 1/2" X 36" cold rolled plain steel rod. You will find this in the welding section of your local store.
