Minwax 1 qt. Tung Oil Finish

I love this product. It gives a beautiful finish, and I can apply as many coats as needed to get the look I want. I usually apply about 6 coats to get a nice even semi-gloss finish on pine. I used this product to finish a pine countertop that I made in our downstairs bathroom, and my wife loved the look of it so much that she asked me to strip the BIG kitchen table top I had made years ago, and refinish it with this product. I like that I can apply it easily with cheap dust-free cloths and have no brush marks, and that I can simply coat it again as needed over time due to wear.

I used this finish to coat a table I made from some kind of Birch and Walnut. I have used Minwax products in the past and have enjoyed their performance. I am fairly new to doing this, only about 4 years. I sanded the surface after planing...60 grit, 120 grit, 150 grit and then 220 grit. Between coats of the Minwax Tung Oil coats, I sanded with 220 grit and an orbital sander. I only applied 2 coats. I will say that on the first application on the table top surface I did pour the finish on and it sank directly into the wood. I had to take a belt sander and took it down to bare wood and then reapply by placing the material on a cloth and then applying. Apart from that, the finish was fairly easy to apply. I was really happy with the smoothness of the surface after both applications. There was a slight darkening of the wood after the application. I actually wanted more darkening on the walnut. Overall, I am happy with the results.

The amount of solvent added to Tung oil seems in excess. Disappointed that the can does not indicate some indication of this. I thought I was purchasing pure Tung oil.

Do not buy this. It is not tung oil. It's a terrible finish and it will not give you the results you want if you are looking for tung oil.
