The MIBRO Ship Auger Bit is designed for drilling clean, large-diameter holes up to 15 in. (381 mm) deep in wood, wood composites, and timbers. Featuring a 14 in. (355.6 mm) twist length and an 18 in. (457.2 mm) overall length, it is ideal for construction, timber framing, utility work, and other applications requiring deep, straight holes. A coarse threaded screw point pulls the bit through the material for faster drilling with less effort, while the single cutting spur scores the wood fibers to produce smooth, clean hole edges. The solid center design and full-length heat treatment provide added rigidity and help resist bending during demanding drilling applications. Ground flutes behind the lands efficiently channel wood chips away from the cutting edge for faster, cleaner drilling, while the wide lands help keep the bit tracking straight throughout the cut. Built for dependable performance, this ship auger bit is ideal for heavy-duty wood drilling projects.

    Decent bit for the money, but short lifespan.

    So I only have a three star rating because while the bit did drill through what I needed, it was dulled very quickly while doing so. I drilled through 9, 2 x 4’s nailed together supporting a header on each side of a door in a new construction project. I verified that my drilling area was nail free. After the second set of 2 x 4’s the bit would no longer pull through and the chamfer seemed very blunt. I did start a 3rd set but had to switch to my 1/2” ship’s auger, which of course suffered a similar fate.

    Right tool for the right job!

    Perfect tool for what I needed. I built a picnic table, 5 benches, 2 end tables, and two small benches for the end of the table. The main support was 6"X6" with 2" lumber attached to both sides, so I needed a long bit. It was sharp and drilled the perfect size hole for the same-size carriage bolt.

    Yes, I recommend this product.
