We used this to drill through 2-2x8's and a 4x4 pressure treated boards when building a deck. Drilled through without having to pull back to clear chips very much.

Get what you pay for

Drilled 2 holes, started on the 3rd bit started smoking. I bought a very high quality bit (also cost 3 times as much) and drilled over 25 holes, no problems

Works great on RR ties

I used the auger bit to drill holes in used railroad ties for a stone driveway/parking perimiter. It worked excellent, drilling thru 8" thick heavy RR ties.. It was so sharp it actually tore up a leather glove from cleaning the chips out of the auger so watch that. After drilling probably 25 holes, the pilot screw point was worn down some and I could tell it wasn't cutting as well as new but it was still performing decent. I would buy again.
