Meloxicam tablets are a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain and inflammation associated with acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, such as osteoarthritis and arthritis, in dogs and cats. Meloxicam blocks prostaglandin-making enzymes (cyclooxygenase 1 and 2) and it reduces prostaglandin levels. Because of this action, inflammation, and the symptoms thereof, are reduced.

Special Precautions

Notify your veterinarian if your dog:

• Is lactating or pregnant
• Has high blood pressure
• Suffers from heart disease
• Has a bleeding disorder
• Is retaining fluid
• Suffers from congestive heart failure
• Has been diagnosed with kidney or liver disease
• Has bleeding or an ulcer in the stomach
• Is allergic to any NSAID, including aspirin

Side Effects

The most frequently reported adverse reaction to NSAIDs is upset stomach. However, other side effects could develop because of stomach ulcers, including:
