This purge pump periodically expels water from the reservoir to prevent mineral buildup in the cooler. Unlike other purge mechanisms, this pump operates directly from the MCP44 and MCP59's electronic control system. Purge systems use much less water than typical bleed-off systems. Note: This product may require up to 2 additional days for order processing prior to shipping

Q: How to keep water in water trough cool
a year ago- A: Hello! In an evaporative cooler, the water doesn't actually need to be cold in the same way a refrigerator or air conditioner cools a space with refrigerant (like Freon). Instead, the cooling effect comes from the process of evaporation. Here's how it works: Water Reservoir: The evaporative cooler has a reservoir that holds water. Water Distribution: Water is pumped from the reservoir to wet pads (also called media) through a distribution system. Evaporation Process: When hot air from outside is drawn through these wet pads by a fan, the water in the pads evaporates. Cooling Effect: As the water evaporates, it absorbs heat from the air, which cools the air. This cooler, moistened air is then blown into the living space. The key principle here is the latent heat of evaporation: water absorbs a significant amount of heat when it changes from liquid to vapor, which cools the air passing through the wet pads. Now, with that said, using colder water, such as adding ice or refrigerated water to the pan, can provide a temporary boost to the cooling effect of an evaporative cooler. When the water is colder, the air passing over the wet pads initially becomes cooler, which can enhance the cooling performance for a short period. However, this effect is usually temporary Rapid Temperature Equalization: The ice will quickly melt, and the water temperature will rise to match the ambient temperature. Limited Impact: The primary cooling mechanism in an evaporative cooler is the evaporation of water, which is influenced more by the humidity and temperature of the incoming air than by the initial temperature of the water. Therefore, while adding ice can provide a brief improvement in cooling, it's not a sustainable or efficient long-term solution. To ensure optimal performance of an evaporative cooler, maintaining good airflow by keeping the cooling pads clean and ensuring an adequate water supply are the most effective strategies. -Melissa, Champion Coolera year agoHelpful?
Q: Can I use this as a replacement for the main pump?
6 years ago- A: Nate314, the purge pump is the same pump as the main pump. However, the purge pump kit comes with extra components for the purge system. It would be cheaper just to purchase the pump as the replacement for the main pump. Please contact our customer service team Monday - Friday 7:30 to 6:00pm CST, 800-643-8341 for more information about this unit. Thank you, Tina / Champion Cooler6 years agoHelpful?
