We purchased this item to replace a narrower grate that was also purchased from Tractor Supply a few years ago but was too small for our fireplace, my mistake. While this item is well constructed with solid steel we were disappointed that the bars are only 5/8" square vs. the old one which is 3/4" square bar. Not a big deal but the 1/8" smaller steel bars just don't look as "beefy" and substantial. The ember retainer has good and bad points. On the up side it does keep the pieces from falling through so the fire is more self sustaining as all the red hot bits stay in one place. Down side is even after all the logs and pieces turn to ash they still don't fall through so the next day it is necessary to use one of the fire pokers to disturb the ash so it will fall through otherwise the gas flame is not going to be as effective in starting the new logs. Lastly, we found the grate was too tall and had to use an angle grinder to remove about 1-1/2" off all the legs.

Very pleased with the whole online ordering process, delivery, packaging, and lastly, the grate itself. Well made & heavy. Put it to use the same day I received it; continue to use it every day. Get this one. Don't waste your time looking around elsewhere. Before getting this one, I made the mistake of ordering 1 from another well-known, online seller. Not only was the box the wrong choice (destroyed in transit from flopping around), the grate they sent was not what I ordered (only 21"). Taped the heck out of their box and returned ASAP.

Sturdy, looks great, I love this fire grate. Purchased to replace a less sturdy hard to use grate.

The grate works fine. It took a lot of research so I settled on this product. Holds firewood where it burns good to the end .
