KBS Motor Coater in Detroit Diesel Alpine Green is a direct to metal engine enamel rated to 500 F, built to restore and protect tractor, truck, car, motorcycle, and small engines. It bonds to cast iron, steel, and aluminum with no primer, stands up to oil, gasoline, and transmission fluid, and cures to a hard, UV stable high gloss finish that will not chalk or fade in the sun. Detroit Diesel Alpine Green matches the factory engine color used on Detroit Diesel engines, a natural fit for tractors, loaders, dozers, and other diesel equipment. Brush, roll, or spray it; brush marks level out for a smooth, professional look. One quart typically covers one complete diesel engine. Made in the USA.For the best result, prep with the KBS 3 step system. Wire brush loose paint and rust, then clean with KBS Klean diluted in warm water, scrub, rinse, and let dry. Treat with RustBlast to remove light rust and etch the metal, keeping it wet at least 30 minutes on smooth or lightly rusted steel, then rinse and dry. Freshly sandblasted metal needs no other prep. Over sound existing engine paint, scuff lightly with 300 to 400 grit, clean with KBS Klean, rinse, and dry. Stir thoroughly for several minutes, touching the bottom of the can to lift settled pigment, and apply between 55 and 82 F by brush, foam brush, roller, or spray. To spray, use a 1.4 to 1.6 mm tip at 35 to 45 psi on siphon guns or 25 to 35 psi on gravity guns, and reduce 5 to 10 percent with KBS number 1 Thinner or xylene if needed. Metallic colors look best sprayed. Clean up with KBS number 1 Thinner or lacquer thinner. Thick coats can wrinkle, so two thin coats beat one heavy coat. Wait at least 7 days before clear coating. For exhaust manifolds, headers, and parts that run above 500 F, use KBS XTC instead.
