  • A: Good Morning, No this unit was not designed to run that type of equipment. You would want to go with something like the TS4N5 https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/ingersoll-rand-80-gallon-5-hp-reciprocating-air-compressor Thank you

Q: Can it be hooked up to a bigger tank?

1 Answer
  • A: This unit is not intended to be hooked up to another air tank. It is a small portable unit. There are two other units that TSC carries by Ingersoll Rand that have 20 gallon tanks to them. Please see the below two links. Q: Can you use with a spray gun to paint?

1 Answer
  • A: The average air consumption for a sprayer, like our Ingersoll Rand 270G is about 8 cfm. The Garagemate compressor only produces 5.2 cfm at 90psi. You would want to move up to at least our SS3L3 model compressor which produces 11.3CFM at 90 cfm. Or the TS4N5 which TSC sells. Also if you are looking to get a showroom type finish you would want to add a Dryer such as our D42IN and possibly a FA filter assembly before the spray gun to remove any condensation. Heavy duty

Great heavy duty unit. Researched for months and kept going back to this air compressor. Best compressor and best price. I ordered at the store for a shipping discount and was also able to use my 10% off anything TSC coupon. If you’re reading this review, you know about Ingersoll Rand and their quality. Don’t waste your time looking elsewhere and just get it!

Most Helpful Critical Review

Probably not worth the money

First, I am a big fan of Tractor Supply so this is a review of the compressor, only. I bought this unit to replace a Husky 20 Gallon compressor that locked up after 9 years of light use. I originally paid about $180 for the Husky and it can currently be purchased at big box stores for $240. My wife convinced me I should pay more for a "better" unit that would last longer. That seems like good advice, but is it really? I almost could have purchased three of the Husky compressors for what the IR compressor cost. The big disappointment came when I received the IR unit and started reading the assembly and maintenance instructions. This unit requires you to do the follow: 1) adjust the belt tension as needed. 2) Check the air filters (two of them) and clean or replace weekly. 3) Change the compressor synthetic oil every 12 months with IR's outrageous $40 per liter oil. In comparison, the Husky compressor is a sealed compressor where you just plug it in and go to work. If you factor in the cost of oil and filters and time spent working on this compressor instead of using it, three Husky units for the same money starts to look like a whole lot better deal. Also, this is advertised as a "portable " compressor. You can easily move it on a level concrete floor, but you cant roll it between buildings as ground clearance between the wheels is about one inch. I have a detached garage and sometimes need to move my compressor from the garage to the house. You can't do it with this unit because it drags the ground and cannot be lifted onto a truck due to the 200lb weight. It is basically garage bound which begs the question "why does it have inflatable tires". They just go flat and have no purpose on a concrete floor. If you like tinkering with your tools and pride of ownership is a factor, then maybe this is for you. As for me, I just prefer to use tools, not have them be a tax on my time and wallet. So, is it really worth the big price tag? Not for me. I deeply regret the purchase, but guess I will learn to deal with it.

Good quality and quiet belt driven compressor

I've had this compressor for two years and have not had any issues with it. It's quiet, airs up quickly, and has run all of my air tools without issue. It did arrive with damage to the cooling fins, but TSC shipped me a whole new unit. I just had to take the damaged one to the store to return it. I wish IR would take more care in their shipping packaging.

Very high quality compressor, should last forever.

Excellent, very high quality compressor. So long as it meets your CFM requirements you will love it. I was impressed by how much better built it was than previous DeWalt and Porter Cable units I owned. Ingersoll Rand service has been excellent. There was some very minor damage in transit, and they expedited replacement parts to me, at no charge. Much easier than dealing with a 200 lb return. If you are a rare person who will put over 2000 hours/year on this machine, I recommend installing an hour meter on the motor for ease of maintenance tracking. Otherwise, just drain and replenish annually. The unit is fully modular and every part is serviceable. If you take care of it, it should outlive you.
