Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hobart 145 I bought the Hobart 145 and couldn’t be happier it is a great machine. Fires up first pull every time. Burns hot runs consistent and it is very handy you can just throw it in the back your truck and take it anywhere.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Low cost, Great Structural Welding machine I was a shop welder and welded with both millers and lincolns, then a refinery welder and welded with old sa200 and newer model diesels, then wanted to be my own boss and become a Mobile welder. I noticed how expensive it is to maintain the old and new linconl sa 200s and 300s, and wanted to downgrade to either a lincoln ranger or outback 185. But since i was tight on budgeting, i saw this hobart 145. At first i was skeptical, but i was surprised that all my structural welding needs were met. Powers chop saws, grinders, and drills, also powers a lincoln 140 mig welder running .035 wire. I havent yet tried to hook a plasma cutter or try to tig weld (just reverse DC+ cables to DC-) but i am anxious to try it. Overall, if your just in the business of welding smaller/medium type jobs (like fences, trailers, dump trucks, Angle Irons, I-Beams) or weld steel 3/8" and below and are concerned for budgeting, this machine is for you. On a full tank, this machine can handle maybe 6.5 or 7 hours of work, maybe it can go 10 hours if it were not for the high idle this machine is constantly running. If you feel you will be constantly welding nonstop, get a ranger 225 or 250gxt, this hobart 145 machine i only see it as a "side job" type. Because i require more amperages for the work i am now doing, i think i will buy the lincoln outback 185, just about $600 cheaper than the hobart champion elite 225, and about 1K more than the hobart 145....even though its 40 amp difference....yes i know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bang for the buck anywhere! I'm a retired USN/USCG ship welder and have been welding for over 40 years. I wanted something for the shop and house, not to big and in my budget. This was it! I am a Miller welder fan and the Hobart company is partners with them. This machine has done everything I needed and also powers my home when the lights go out during any storm. The briggs power plant should give years of service and I believe this machine is a huge winner for the Hobart brothers. You won't be disappointed.

What size rod can you weld with it. Can you weld pipe fence

Asked by: jettex
The unit can run up to 5/32 rods and weld up to 1/4" material. The unit is rated at 145 amps maximum output and can weld with rods capable of that amperage. Pipe fence should be doable if the material is generally no thicker than 1/4".

can you run a suit case mig off of it

Asked by: jo3y
By suitcase MIG are you referring to a 115Vor 230 MIG welder or a voltage sensing suitcase feeder? If MIG welder it could run a Handler 140 to rated output or a Handler 190 to rated output but not to their max outputs. If referring to a suitcase wire feeder then we would not recommend due to the low duty cycle of the welder. It would be to easy to overload the welder since wire feed tends to be more continuous arc than stick.
