Rated 2 out of 5 by from Shocked in Webster Material was the selling point. Rubber instead of the plastic heated water bucket. Honestly thought it would hold up better in the elements and not crack in cold temps. However, the material was OK, but the heating element was not. Within a few days the inside bottom of the bucket pulled from the sidewalls allowing water to reach the heating element area. Bucket was returned and reimbursement of funds requested. Cannot say if it was a defect specifically to that bucket or a product issue in general. So, in fairness, once the store restocks, I will most likely purchase another and hope for fair comparison beyond a few days.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worked for 4 winters, but now died We got this in fall 2015 for our alpacas. Here in Maine it gets cold in winter. We keep it inside the barn. I had no problems with it until I just tried it yesterday, as it got cold. Ice in the bucket. It keeps tripping the GFCI, which it should if not working correctly. Looks like I may try one of the plastic ones instead. I do remember when I got it, you had to set the set the thermometer on it somehow by first putting it in your freezer. Good luck. Don't expect it to last forever.

what happens after all the water is gone , will it damage the heating element or will it shut off when no water is left in the bucket?

Asked by: kat27
It won't damage the unit. If left out of water for an extended period of time, the heating element will still cycle on and off if below freezing.

How warm will it keep water before cycling off ?

Asked by: Lady of the Goats
There is no specific temperature. The vendor says the thermostat will turn on at approximately 35 degrees, will preheat up like an oven, and will shut off at approximately 50 degrees and cycle back through.
