- A: Hi Neighbor! Mix 1½ cups per 10 square feet into the soil during bed preparation, or use ¼ cup for a 1-gallon plant in the planting hole. For established plants, use 1 cup per 10 sq. feet or 2 cups per inch of trunk diameter. Sprinkle the fertilizer evenly on the soil surface around the base of the plant.
