There is nothing wrong with this hook; it's well made and has a pretty good balance. My only ding is that I prefer a simpler hook with the hook planted in a hole in the handle. My preference should not detract from this hook, however. Well built and inexpensive.

They dont grip without slamming into the bale of hay, unlike my thinner steel hay hooks. Even my meat hooks grip the hay better. The steel on these is thick, but if they could hammer the hooks 50% thinner (same gauge of wire), it would be an insane improvement

I bought these hay hooks to add a spare set at the ranch but the experience was lacking. Not only do they have sharp edges (inside the handle, should be sanded/filed down), so gloves must be worn, they do not "dig" into the hay bales as well as other hooks and without jamming them they tend to "drag" on the side. They are SOLID steel, which is very nice, but the tips are just too thick and the angle isn't right to latch on to hay without being forceful.

Haven't used them yet, but they're very sturdy and should be easily found in the haystack. Handles don't "spin", but that's not really an issue. Wonder why, since they were shipped to a nearby store, they couldn't have simply been shipped to my home. Easy enough though. Quite satisfied with the product and the transaction.
