This is a great rapier. First of all, it’s very light, which is exactly what you want. It’s lighter than most cold, steel, sword and that’s what you want. It could be lighter or at least you could balance, the weight backwards more somehow. But time, use, sharpening, and passing it down to my grand children will fix that part. It is not a Spanish rapier. It is a clamshell hilt that has ruffles on it. My one criticism is that I don’t like the weird ring that surrounds the clamshell, I would prefer just larger and wider clamshell than that weird ring, which bothers my eyes somehow. It’s really nice and long, I measured 39 1/4 freedom units (inches) from the very top of the guard to the tip of the point. Of course, the whole sword, including the handle is longer. The guard is very protective. Your hand will definitely be safe inside this envelope. It all looks very beautiful and yeah, it is, of course, industrial and mass-produced. It’s a high-quality battle ready sword which is beautiful and artistic, but it’s not an individual Michelangelo of a sword. It has a grip that seems to be sharkskin, but it might be plastic molded, synthetic shark skin. Either way has a very strong grippy texture, which I like, because it means that my sweaty hands won’t let go and I have sweaty hands. I might like to put a British jungle treatment on it, which means to put sewn leather around the hand guard to reduce glare and reflection. It has a really beautiful fuller, and it seems like the blade is almost blued. It’s very sharp and pointy, it’s not the polished sort of sharp, it’s the jagged, raspy, kind of razor-sharp, and the point is very pointy. The health is really good, it seems to be leather, but it’s strong and Stephanie off that it might have wood in it, because it’s not floppy. It has a good shape and a good frontal end cap of the scabbard. The style of the scabbard is shiny and polished, and very simple. The whole thing is in polished silvery steel. You can see the scabbard partially on the sword in my photograph. They call it a cup hilt, rapier but it’s not. It’s a very large clamshell with a weird loopy ring around it. I don’t like the loopy ring. I would prefer it to be just a clamshell with a few extra bars, and weld the bars to the clamshell, or else, a full cup hilt in a Spanish style. However, overall, I really love it and I’m giving it five stars. Cold steel, please keep up the good work with the dueling saber and rapier idea. I would be interested in a equally or more lightweight swept hilt and Spanish rapier style. In a duel or a war you don’t want the biggest, heaviest, slowest sword; you want a fast sword to get the enemy first and end the fight quickly and get yourself out of danger.
