I purchased this unit for my Ford Excursion specifically for occasional towing. Because I do not tow frequently, it has spent the vast majority of the past two years stored next to my trailer and has probably seen no more than three months of cumulative use. When I recently went to install it so I could tow my boat home from the marina, I discovered that it had snapped completely through at the riser. This was not a component that had been subjected to years of continuous use, abuse, or excessive mileage. It failed after relatively limited service, which is extremely concerning for a product designed to be part of a towing system where structural integrity should be the absolute minimum expectation. After examining the fracture and construction more closely, the component appears to use a low-cost manufactured metal part rather than the type of robust, confidence-inspiring construction I would expect from critical towing equipment. Regardless of the manufacturing method, the fact remains: a major structural component broke clean through after very limited use. For something that connects thousands of pounds of trailer to your vehicle, I simply would not trust this product again. I strongly recommend spending your money on a higher-quality alternative from a manufacturer that uses proven, heavy-duty components. Saving a few dollars on towing equipment is not worth discovering its weakness when you actually need it. Based on my experience, I would not purchase this product again, and I cannot recommend it to anyone towing anything they care about.
