Q: Are all the ingredients from the US?
Anonymous5 years ago- A: The CEO of the manufacturing company issued the following statement: Ingredient Safety & Sourcing Concerns The Garmon Corporation realizes that there is a large amount of concern in the pet industry due to product recalls some of which have contained adulterated and or harmful ingredients from China. We want to ensure you that the Garmon Corporation is taking measures to continue to provide safe and effective products as we have been for over 30 years. Whenever possible we source our raw ingredients from within the United States. However, when it comes to vitamins it is important to understand that 99.9% of all animal vitamins and food, and even human vitamins that have complex vitamin blends, will have Chinese derived vitamins in them. As an example, approximately 90% of the world’s Vitamin C supply comes from China. Even vitamins that are produced in the USA have limited availability here in the States. Because of this we cannot guarantee that our raw ingredient vitamins are all sourced from the USA. Our suppliers often have no choice but to import vitamins from China. Be aware that some manufacturers of food and vitamins say things like “all our vitamins are made in the U.S.” What that might mean is their entire finished vitamin products are PRESSED or MANUFACTURED in the U.S., or purchased from a U.S. based distributor, but what they do not tell you, is that many of the raw ingredients or vitamins actually come from China. We spend hundreds of thousands of dollars per year to do contamination testing and Identification testing on all incoming ingredients. This is the most important part of safety in products. As you know, many of the salmonella contaminations are really all from U.S. sourced materials. We test, verify and manufacture all our own tablets, powders, liquids, and Soft chews in Temecula, Ca. The difference between supplements and foods is that the food manufacturers are always worried about protein value and that is why the Chinese had to “spike” a couple of ingredients that were specific to food many years ago. They were supplying raw ingredients and having to meet a protein claim on them that they could not always meet. Supplements do not need to meet the same criteria and so this eliminates any motive to contaminate vitamins. When the Melamine contamination happened several years ago, the ingredients that appeared to be affected by the Melamine problem were Wheat Gluten and Rice Protein. These ingredients are used in foods to raise the protein content. It appears from the press releases by the FDA that these ingredients may have had the Melamine added in order to inexpensively raise the protein content. We do not use any of the ingredients that have been affected. We also do not use any ingredients that are used for the purposes of raising protein content. We have no reason to believe that any of the ingredients that we use in our products have been contaminated; however, as a preventative measure we are asking our suppliers to test any Rice, Corn, or Wheat ingredients that we do use for any contamination. Our suppliers are also closely monitoring their vitamin sources. The Garmon Corporation is one of the founding members of the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC). We have received the NASC Seal of quality, for meeting or exceeding the most stringent quality and labeling guidelines applicable to the animal supplement industry. Our facilities are independently audited and inspected by the NASC and also by the FDA. The NASC logs all adverse events for all of its members which are reviewed by the FDA. We do not have any product issues reported relating in any way to contamination of any ingredients or finished products. As always, we take your concerns and the health of pets very serious. Please feel free to call us for any technical questions. Toll Free 888-628-8783. Sincerely, Scott Garmon President, NaturVet5 years agoHelpful?
