Trailer light wiring kits generally include a wiring harness, a connector and connection hardware. Some kits also include lights or mounting hardware. Check the kit description to see what’s included for your trailer hookup.
A 4-way connector carries the basic lighting connections: ground, running lights, and combined turn signal and brake light circuits. A 7-way connector adds connections that commonly serve electric trailer brakes, auxiliary power and reverse lights. Your tow vehicle and trailer determine which connector setup you need.
On many trailers, white is ground, brown is for running lights, yellow is for the left turn signal and brake light, and green is for the right turn signal and brake light. Color assignments can vary, so follow the wiring diagrams for your trailer and wiring kit rather than going by color alone.
Vehicle-side wiring connects your tow vehicle’s electrical system to its trailer socket. Trailer-side wiring runs from the trailer’s plug to its lights and other electrical components. When choosing a kit, check which side of the hookup it covers.
Plug-in wiring kits connect to matching factory wiring connections on compatible vehicles or trailers. Splice-in kits require connections to individual wires. Check the kit’s fitment information and installation instructions to find the connection style your setup calls for.
