A cam buckle strap is a tie-down with webbing and a spring-loaded buckle. You pull the loose end by hand to take up slack, and the cam grips the webbing. Pressing the buckle’s release lever lets the webbing move again.
The main difference is the tightening mechanism. Cam buckle straps tighten with a hand pull, while ratchet straps have a handle that winds webbing around a spool. Cam buckles don’t require the repeated handle movement of a ratchet.
An endless cam buckle strap has no end hooks. Instead, the loose end passes through the buckle to form a loop around an item or bundle.
Check the strap maker’s care directions first. For everyday dirt, wipe the webbing and buckle with a damp cloth, then let everything air-dry completely before putting it away.
Roll or loosely coil each strap and tuck in the loose end to cut down on tangles. Keep straps in a dry spot out of direct sunlight, whether that’s a gear bag, truck box or shelf in the barn.
