The Wagner PaintEATER 4-1/2 in. disc sander is tough on paint but gentle on surfaces, making this the ideal paint remover tool. The high-performance, spun-fiber paint eater disc operates at 2,600 RPM to provide the proper combination of user control and abrasive performance due to the open-web disc design that minimizes paint and dust build up. Slightly tilt the power paint remover on its edge to remove paint chips, or operate it flat for smooth, feathered paint edges that create an ideal surface for repainting.

For additional information on this product, please see the Product Documents section for all downloadable user manuals, installation guides, brochures and warranty statements.

Paint prep

Did not achieve complete paint removal from a 100 year old multiple paint layer set of swinging garage doors but satisfied with the amount removed and surface preparation. Diminishing returns as you increase pressure and a little patience to be considered. We'll see with next project.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good for difficult jobs

I got the PaintEATER because I wanted to refinish some old pine floors that had been covered with linoleum tile. The tile had been glued to the pine floors, and after removing the tile, attempting to sand the floors led to the sanding belts quickly gumming up with old glue. The design of the PaintEATER is superior to that of an angle grinder when working on a floor. With the PaintEATER, it took a few tries to learn how to use the tool effectively. Applying direct vertical pressure just moved the glue around in circles. I found that by tilting the tool very slightly to the left, not applying excessive force, and moving it across the surface from right to left, the old glue would come off in a fine powder. If you are patient, you will find the right tilt and movement, and you will find it doesn't require much pressure to do the job. If you ask someone else to use the tool, they will either find that sweet-spot or they will go through a lot of disks and overheat the tool. The cost of the replacement disks is the major drawback of the tool. Anyone buying this tool needs to know that you will need to buy many replacement disks. The good news is that there is a similar style disk for angle grinders that are made to work with both a key lock and threaded lock. These disks work well on the PaintEATER and are much, much cheaper.

Thanks for your review. As with most tools, just allow the tool to do the work without applying extra force and the pads will last longer. Good luck with all your projects.

Gets the job done!

I haven’t been able to find anything to get the job done as well. The pads do wear down rather quickly if you have more than 1 layer of paint to get through and a size able job. Also the motor has burned up on 2 of them but I bought another one to continue the job until it’s done so it works good enough not to be dissuaded by those negatives about the product.

Yes, I recommend this product.
