A: Hi Neighbor- Yes, this fuel can be used in a 2-stroke dirt bike. It is suitable for off-road 2-cycle motorcycles and is described as being equally the same as other 40:1 pre-mixed fuels used for bikes like the KX65.

Q: Would you recommend your VP 40:1 for an Off Road 2 cycle motorcycle, 1975 Bultaco Alpina 250cc? I usually run 40:1, but have a need for ethanol free fuel because the ethanol is known to destroy fiberglass fuel tanks on the Vintage 2 stroke motorcycles.

  • A: Yes this fuel would be fine and probably add longer life to your bike. Could also check VP racing fuels for ethanol free.

Q: My old Homelite XL12 calls for 32:1 mix but of course that was using 1970s 2 cycle oil. Would I be safe using your 40:1 mix? If not could I add more of your 2 cycle oil to this fuel to get it to 32:1? How many ounces would I need to add to the gallon can?

1 Answer
  • A: It's a difference of 0.8oz of oil content if you wanted to pick up the 2.6oz 2 Cycle oil we also have on the shelves at Tractor Supply. Thanks!

Excellent Fuel

I recently purchased some of this fuel to run in my Echo trimmer and I am sold! The trimmer ran so much better and smoother on this fuel than it's ever run on any pump fuel! I highly recommend it!

VP Small engine fuels

I work on a variety of equipment. I’ve tried several different canned 2-cycle fuels in the power equipment, after 6 months of testing I have found that the VP Racing small engine fuel has the best repeatability overall. Specifically of note is the fuel remains stable in storage as advertised without exception. Retains its effectiveness regardless of time or fluctuations in environmental conditions. Has effectively solved the issues I’ve seen related to pump fuel, specifically alcohol related moisture absorption and corrosion failures. The VP small engine 2-cycle oil in my tests burns extremely clean and leaves an ample fluid film in the crankcases as well as on the pistons etc. Very little smoke and faint odor at a 40:1 mix ratio in trimmers and saws. Only suggestion I would like to see is a little darker tint/color to the 2-cycle oil for easier identification at a glance. Inspires confidence in knowing the equipment I repair is good to go even if it sits for a few weeks before it’s picked up. It costs a bit more initially, but saves me a lot of unnecessary work in the long run. Highly recommended at the Hogs Nest!

Yes, I recommend this product.

May be beneficial to some people

Ive used this fuel in several chainsaws from carbureted saws to electronically controlled carbureted saws and fuel injected saws . The carbureted saws do best because you can tune the saw for the fuel . However the electronically controlled and fuel injected saws somewhat struggle to find the right fuel to air ratio for peak performance. They seem to run rich and dont seem to have full power . Switch back to premium pump gas that's ethanol free and those saws run perfect again . These saws are not stock either they have had cylinder work done and are very high performance saws . Ive checked everything on the saws to make sure nothing is wrong with them and they check out good for pressure and vacuum test. Fuel lines , fuel filter , carb is clean and screen in carb is clean, injector is clean and working properly on fuel injected saw .

Yes, I recommend this product.
