Some bladder and prostate conditions can be treated with Tamsulosin Hydrochloride Capsule. Originally intended for humans, this medication can be prescribed to dogs and other animals if deemed appropriate by the veterinarian. The most common application of tamsulosin hydrochloride is for treating the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Capsules are sold individually.How it Works
Tamsulosin Hydrochloride makes urinating easier by relaxing the muscles in the bladder neck and prostate. It is an alpha-blocker.
Special Precautions
- Keep out of reach of animals and children.
- Not recommended for use in animals with hypersensitivity to tamsulosin hydrochloride.
- Sustained-release pellets in capsules should not be crushed. Rapid oral consumption can cause hypotension.
Immediately contact your closest emergency animal hospital or vet.
Side Effects
Tamsulosin Hydrochloride can cause temporary infertility in dogs due to reactions such as a temporary reduction in ejaculate volume.
Higher dosages could result in hypotension.
If any symptoms of toxicity are observed, discontinue use and inform your pet's veterinarian. These symptoms include:
- Vomiting
- Lethargy
- Ataxia (impaired coordination)
- Tremors
- Excessive lacrimation (tears)
- Eye redness
- Excessive salivation
Store at room temperature: 68° to 77°F (20° to 25°C)
