Q: Is there a way to keep the latch from freezing? We get an afternoon thaw and nighttime freeze then in the morning I need to use a blow torch to melt the ice in the hinge to open it.

1 Answer
  • A: The only things we could think of that might help would be: 1.) Trying to keep the latch shaded so condensation from an afternoon thaw would not re-freeze at night 2.) Installing a heater on a timer 3.) Wrapping the latch in a thermal blanket in attempts to whisk away any condensation and keep the metal from fully freezing

The best latch we have found!

This is the best latch we have come across. You can see and hear it latch, and it seems to work ALL the time. We give ours a squirt of graphite once a year to keep it operating smoothly. The best part is the fact that it can be padlocked, a very necessary thing in these times of pranksters and deviates.

Not very secure.

Easy install, nice one hand feature but any animal (or human) can open the gate with a hard push. The design is "springy" and gives under a hard push. Great for some applications but not for horses or livestock.

These are the best gate latches for a busy farm. The chains and other contraptions when trying to heard animals can be difficult and this works perfectly.

Not practical in real life.

Great idea but if the post moves or the gate sags, then this is a real pain to open again. You end up lifting the gate or pushing it down to be able to open it. Gets frustrating real fast.
