Item Information

Shell Rotella ELC is an ethylene glycol/water-based engine coolant for heavy-duty gasoline and natural gas powered engines. This product requires no supplemental coolant additives (SCAs) additions and contains no borate, silicate, nitrate, and phosphate.

  • Rotella ELC has been proven, with over 150 million kilometers of fleet testing, to provide complete protection of all cooling system components
  • The inhibitors in Rotella ELC, due to their specific chemistry, are designed to go 1,000,000 km on-road or 12,000 hours off-road with only one Shell Rotella ELC Extender addition at 500,000 km or 6,000 hours
  • After 1,000,000 km or 12,000 hours it is recommended that the coolant be tested for continued use

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stuff! If you own a 6.0L Powerstroke you need to switch to this coolant and ditch the Ford Gold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Coolent My 2006 F250 6.0 diesel loves Rotella ELC coolent. I did a coolent system flush from the factory Gold coolent and replaced it with the Rotella ELC. I very happy with the performance of this coolent. With no coolant additives (SCAs) additions and contains no borate, silicate, nitrate, and phosphate this helps keep the oil cooler from pluging up. I pull a heavy 38’ travel trailer here in the Texas heat with no coolent issues. Rotella ELC is well worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coolant This is all I run in my problematic 6.0. Go Rid of the silica riddled gold garbage and started running this ELC. Glad someone in my area actually Carrys it in stock so I don’t have to orde off the internet anymore! With a coolant filter and elc, all the coolant issues are gone.

Will this work in BX24 kabota? Calls for a 'permanent' type anti freeze.

Asked by: RichPr
Hi Rich, Yes, Rotella ELC will do well. However, if you do not have this type coolant (OAT chemistry) in it now, it is advisable to change out rather than top off. Keith

Will it work in 1994 Silverado 6.5 turbo diesel?

Asked by: Dukes
Hi Dukes, I believe when your vehicle came out it had the traditional green inorganic type coolant that was changed every 2 years. If you have been using that and want to switch to the Rotella ELC, you need to completely flush out the old coolant and continue on a 2 year change interval. GM recommended a 2 year interval for 1994 models that are converted to their Dexcool. Dexcool and Rotella ELC are both organic acid technology (OAT) coolants. Keith

Can I use it in my F150 Ecoboost V6 5.3l engine

Asked by: Macdeman
Hi Macdeman, Rotella ELC is an OAT type with Nitrite added. It is not the same type as Ford Orange or Yellow. Our Shell Rotella ELC Nitrite-Free product is a better replacement. Keith

Can this be used in an 06 superduty powerstroke

Asked by: Floyd50
The manufacturer does not recommend Rotella ELC for that application. You may consider using Shellzone Multi-Vehicle (#5066315) instead.

I have a 2018 Massey Ferguson 1742 tractor. The operator's manual calls for ethylene glycol anti-freeze. Is this product suitable for my tractor?

Asked by: Jeff Massey
You will need to determine the type of anti-freeze present in the system now to be sure it is compatible with OAT (organic acid technology) products, even though they may be both ethylene glycol base. If so, Rotella ELC is an excellent choice.

Can this be used in a 1986 f350 6.9 idi

Asked by: Excur
No. This does not meet the specs for ESE-M97B44-A which is what is recommended for the 1986 F350.

Is this CAT EC-1 rated?

Asked by: JamesNASAMAN

Would this coolent be good to use in my vintage 1951 John Deere model A tractor. Of course after old coolent is drained and system is flushed. Cold & Hot New Hampshire vintage farmer. Thanks.

Asked by: 51JohnDeereA
Hi, You may want to stay with a conventional coolant since the compatibility of seals, gaskets, and hoses has not been established. The silicates present in the conventional (Inorganic additives) coolant will help protect those items. Keith
