Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised I bought these spikes last spring and installed them as directed with an exception. Since we have clay/firm soil, one thing I did to help placement of these spikes is I used a metal spike to make the initial hole rather than tapping them straight into the ground. This technique worked well and saved time. Trees looked healthier in the fall and into this spring. Will purchase again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Killed my Shrubs I planted 3 emerald green arborvitae shrubs last year and 19 more back in February. They were all growing great until I decided to add these fertilizer spikes. 2 weeks after applying I noticed some of my shrubs starting to brown. I didn’t think much of until all of them started browning. I immediately went to remove the fertilizer but the sticks had completely dissolved into the soil. Now all of my newly planted shrubs are completely dead and my 3 large shrubs that I planted last year are starting to die. Don’t use this product!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing and Simple I'm a compost tea guy, but this year I was short on time so I though what the heck. I was scared at first because I had heard of burning and ineffectiveness. I wanted it to work-needed it to work- so I read some helpful blogs, and read the directions. This stuff works and I say this as a well experienced gardener who was pessimistic about the prospects of fertilizer spikes. A few pointers: If plant is planted below the grade kind of like a bowl and the soil actually acts like a bowl holding the water in, spike outside the bowl because ammonia water will burn the root ball. If above grade and the water sheds off go closer in. Never go next to the base. Know your plant. Some plants are capable of fixing Nitrogen so spikes don't hurt. Some don't fix Nitrogen and need an acid present. Anyway good luck.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from they suck It may be that we have clay soil but they were impossible to get in the ground. I even soaked the ground but nothing worked. I would not recommend these to anyone from my experience. I will go looking for something I can spray on them occasionally. It will most likely be a Miracle Gro product as I have had good luck with everything I have bought up to these annoying stakes. Hopefully I can return the unused box. I threw 1/2 of the first box away. Tired of fighting with them.

Can these be used on Fruit trees (apples primarily)?

Asked by: JP123
This product will work well for any of your none citrus or fruit trees, but for your Apple Tree we would recommend using our Fruit and Citrus spikes for feeding your fruit bearing tree. We want you to be confident in our products and that is why we offer a product guarantee. If you would like to further discuss this, please contact us here: http://tinyurl.com/noc5mcg

can these spikes be used for tomato plants?

Asked by: dirty hands
These are safe to use for tomato plants; however, the manufacturer would recommend using a liquid fertilizer instead as these are so large and it can be difficult to even the coverage out on the plant.
