Q: I have a fence with some rust. Can i just take a wire wheel across those areas and apply this rustoleum? Just want to know if all the rust needs removed before application

  • Rust-OleumSupport
A: We're here to help, Michelle! Remove any loose rust or previous paint with the wire wheel, and then wash the surface with a good degreasing cleaner. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water and allow to fully dry. Then apply 2 or more light coats of Rust-Oleum Professional Cold Galvanizing Compound Spray a few minutes apart to avoid drips and runs. — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15

Q: Is this non-toxic? I plan on using it on a water basin.

  • Rust-OleumSupport
A: Great question! Rust-Oleum Professional Cold Galvanizing Spray is considered non-toxic once it has fully cured, but we cannot recommend it for use on a water basin as the coating would bubble and begin to peel with that type of water exposure. Currently, we do not have any coating suitable for that use. — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15

Q: Can I use on furnace chimney pipe

1 Answer
  • A: Rust-Oleum Professional Cold Galvanizing Compound will withstand temperatures of up to 200°F. We recommend testing the surface temperatures before application of this product. If the metal surface reaches temperatures higher than 200°F, use Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Spray Paint, instead.

Poor Adhesion

This is typical Rust-Oleum garbage . The part that I was coating, was sand blasted and cleaned to ensure proper adhesion. After spraying the Cold Galvanizing Compound, and letting it dry overnight at 65 degrees with air movement, I checked that it was cured with a fingernail, and it came off the metal very easily. So I re-sandblasted the part, and painted it, (Not with any RustOleum product). I've had similar experiences with Rust-Oleum paints in the past with poor adhesion and not curing. I'm definitely done using any RustOleum products.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for the feedback, Tommy, on Rust-Oleum Professional Cold Galvanizing Compound Spray. Please note that full durability and adhesion to some surfaces can take up to 7 days, so we don't recommend testing for adhesion before then.
