The spacing of the grate allows for airflow, but is not so wide that the logs fall through.

I bought this four months ago. After about the 3rd week I noticed there was buckling in the center and a small piece missing. Depending on how high you let the embers build up under it you may want to consider buying another product that not made of cast iron. I was going to rate it two stars but to be fair if you use it differently than me and keep the underside clean and the embers real low it shouldn't be an issue. One nice feature is it's size which allows you to stack up more wood at a time. Considering the price it's not a bad product, just not as durable as I had expected. I'm guessing it's cheap steel which is also why the price is low.

Well worth the money

Very solid. Great air flow and excellent coal retention yet ash settle’s through the grate just fine. I’ve had it glowing red in my wood stove and it hasn’t warped at all yet It’s hard to believe they can sell this at the price I paid
