Q: Will this work on 18 in

1 Answer
  • A: The Olympia Tools Manual Tire Changer is designed to work on tires from 8 inches up to a maximum of 16 inches (including light truck tires up to size 12.5L16), so it will not work on an 18 inch tire. The manufacturer explicitly states the maximum capacity of the tool, and user reviews have confirmed its limitations on larger tires. An attempt to use it on an 18-inch tire is unlikely to work and may risk scratching the rim

Excellent buy

This is an excellent tire changer. I have mine mounted on a 4' x 4' x 6" concrete slab. I used 3/8" threaded rod all the way through the concrete on all eight bolt holes for greater stability. I use it for heavy duty light truck and tractor tires. It is still portable using the front end loader. I have dismounted and mounted 7.00 x 15 and 16 ribbed tractor tires and 235 x 80 x 17 Load Range E Michelin radials for my Dodge 3500 dually as well as smaller 15" and 16" radials and bias tires. No problem with any of them. The bar is adequate length, but make sure to use tire mounting goop for lubrication (at the very least use dish soap) on both dismounting and mounting. If not physics works against you and the bar seems too short. It only took 15 minutes to dismount and mount one of the Michelin tires this evening. Save a lot of time and money doing my own tire repairs. Since I am on dirt roads and fields, balancing the truck tires is a waste of time and money. No problem running them at highway speeds after mounting with this tire changer.

Not bad for the money

I bot this item last summer and mounted it right down on to the concrete floor in my shop. The bead breaker works awesome and dismounting tires is easy but the remounting part of the tire iron bar needs some work. I find that the bar keeps wanting to twist out from the rim so I ground the hook a bit deeper. This helped quite a bit but it is still not as it should be. This part of the tool needs to be wider so as to stop the bar from twisting. I just finished changing 4 15" tires on my car and 3 15" tires on my trailer and I would definitely recommend this tool to any DIY handyman as long as he has a good disc grinder to modify the tire iron bar. Supply a wider bar with a deeper hook and I would give it 5 stars but as is I will only give it 3 stars.
