Needed to reseed parts of our lawn laid bare by heavy "new puppy" traffic, after watering this straw holds tight and keeps the seed in place, prevents running dogs from scattering seed & straw, as well as effectively hiding the seed from the birds, they have plenty of feeders already :-)

DO NOT BUY!

This is HAY NOT STRAW! It is full of seed heads! To say that it is useless would be too kind as it’s actually harmful and will ruin any area that you use it. Pennington is also dodging questions about use in vegetable gardens stating that is doesn’t state “vegetable use” on the package. Well, it doesn’t say grass either. It actually doesn’t say anything about it unless you count “seeding straw” because that’s what it is, only it’s the seeds in the package that they must be referring to. NOPE!

This product ruined my garden because the bag was filled with wheat seeds. I have a garden filled with wheat grass everywhere.

It's easy to spread and covers well. However, it's a bit awkward to spread it evenly. I have great hopes that our grass/clover will sprout quicker. It is holding in the moisture and protecting the seed from the wind.
