- A: Hi Neighbor! To permanently install your arbor more securely, extend the posts as illustrated with pressure-treated 2”x4” lumber - purchase separately. Wood will have to be shaved down to 3 1/4 in. (8.25 cm.) on one side to fit snugly and cut to 46 in. (116.9 cm.) in length to fit up the inside of the vinyl posts. Insert into the bottom of all four posts until they hit the bottom rail of side panel. The wood should extend out the bottom of the vinyl post about 36 in. (91.5 cm.). Fasten accordingly with screws and install either directly into the ground or into a concrete footing.9 months agoHelpful?

Really like the arbor. It was a bit of a challenge to get it anchored since ours is an unusually windy area. The arbor should be sold with more structural support, like a cross brace for the top.

I would have rated this arbor with 5 stars, I only didn't because I wish there was a better way to anchor it. I'm concerned about strong winds that we get in this area and the arbor going bye-bye.
Its beautiful, easy to put together and we get a lot of positive compliments on it. It is a much better value that arbors I saw at garden shops and big box stores
