EZ AssemblyTougher Larger than Most@ this Price

This is my second eco Flex Jumbo Fontana coop. I already have a maple colored one and knew this red one would be fabulous. I need a predator free haven and safe place for my broody hens and their babies to nurture and grow.So within the run I use a fine wire mesh (stronger and better than chicken wire) and section off separate mini runs using steel t bars. I didn't have time to go to the lumber store to create a small nursery over a month. These are easy assembly after lining up everything according to their numbers. I don't bother with the roosting bars in the nursery although I do keep them handy for when the coops will have finished being nurseries. The roost bars need a permanent fixing to the coop while the roof is off during assembly, otherwise they will fall out daily, and it's a pain to reach them. I have a mom and 5 babies in the maple nursery house and 14 babies plus 2nd mom also loving their little red nursery house. I only wish they'd make one in blue so I could replace the fragile, cheaper material, waste of money coop I have for my third nursery with 9 babies. That door doesn't shut well, and I worry about small predators getting in through the sliding doors to get at my fluffy babies. After the babies are out I might take and create a hinged door ramp so I know they are safer for the next hatch. Either that or give it to the ducks in their run because they don't have doors in their large predator proof compound. The cost was about the same for the cheaper material coop as it is for the eco flex. The only thing I actually changed about the eco flex structures were buying a more suitable easy grab ramp knob and a few washers to make it fit their pre-drilled hole, and I also beefed up the inside of the ramp doorway so the ramp door couldn't be pushed too far inside the opening. What they use for the job was not enough to accomplish the goal. Believe me compared to other DIY assemble kits these little things are nothing to complain about. But worthy of taking note. It's easier to beef up the doorway before the roof goes on just as it's easier to attach the roost bars permanently at the same time. A third type of DIY coop at TSC's competetor called rugged ranch coop is cheap balsa wood. They use tiny screws and the structure cant handle the strain of every day use. The first time the roof was lifted it literally fell to pieces where the factory had used screws to secure the piece the roof attaches to. It all had to be glued with epoxy and clamped to hold the thing together. If you want something durable get the eco flex brand unless you want to spend about a thousand plus bucks to get the same durability. This Eco flex was about a hundred bucks more than rugged ranch but you'll have much better quality and a safer coop. There are no doors to the rugged ranch coops, and poor ventilation. I may use the 3 of those I bought as turkey nest boxes inside the turkey run next spring. And I will be making lots of sturdying modifications. If you want a quality coop to handle more than two or three birds be sure to get the Jumbo Fontana. When they go on sale they are actually quite affordable for the quality of the product. I anticipate years of use -not months- out of the Eco Flex coops. BTW These take to being hosed out better than all other DIY coop kits I've tried. There's no wood to rot. The very best coop is the one I designed and built from scratch for my initial flock, but it also cost tons of money. It had to have windows and fancy nest boxes and even a mail box etc. My second choice of all coops but first choice of coops from a kit is always going to be the eco Flex Jumbo Fontana. I love this product and I have tried a few on the market. I hope my experiences help.

Mediocre quality and functionality for the price

I bought this in May of 2020. Some of the pieces were cracked; I glued them together (too much hassle to manage with the seller); I had to correspond with the actual maker and first party seller in order to get my complaint addressed. My BIG gripe is that you can't clean the inside unless you are athletic and tiny enough to crawl inside the hatch door. AND you can't do a thorough job this way.

Works with auto door

4 stars because perch mounts on one side were upside-down, i fixed with couple screws. 6 chickens ok. I had auto door control from old coop and it installed easy here. Door is metal 14" x 14" sign off old coop. Some scrap wood for guides and done for free. Auto door is must have for me, keeps free range in until time i set and i don't have to remember to close

Functional but room for improvement

Roosting bars could be higher. Ventilation could be better. Have to remove roof panels to clean it out. Very easy to put together. Materials will last longer than wood.
