Special Precautions

• Minocycline should not be administered to animals with hypersensitivity to this or similar drugs, such as tetracycline or doxycycline.
• Do not use in nursing, pregnant, or breeding pets, unless absolutely necessary and determined to be prudent by a veterinarian.
• Use with caution in pets with a history of liver problems.
• Use with caution in young pets who are still developing teeth and bones.

Side Effects

The most frequently reported side effects (from most to least likely) are:

• Gastrointestinal disturbances
• Vomiting (especially with high dosages)
• Nausea (especially with high dosages)
• Loose stools
• Diarrhea

Diarrhea or loose stools are related to bacterial population changes in the intestine. If diarrhea occurs, speak with your veterinarian about a possible medication change.

Store in a dry and cool environment.

Tips

If you miss a dose, administer it when you remember. If it is close to time for the next dose, skip the dose you missed and give it at the next scheduled time. Never give your pet two doses at once or give extra doses. Do not administer this medication as a dry pill. Give it with a small, moist treat or a small amount of liquid. This is especially important in cats. If the pill gets lodged in the throat or esophagus, it could cause ulcers.
