Merck Animal Health Prestige Tetanus Horse and Livestock Vaccine has been shown to be effective for the vaccination of healthy horses, cattle, swine and sheep 6 months of age or older against tetanus. This tetanus vaccine for cattle is a core vaccine and should be administered annually. The horse tetanus vaccine may be used with pregnant mares and injured horses. Use this vaccine with horses of all life stages. It's recommended by AAEP for all horses, every year according to AAEP Core Vaccine Guidelines.

- Horse tetanus vaccine is a core vaccine, recommended by AAEP for all horses, every year according to AAEP Core Vaccine Guidelines
- Use this tetanus vaccine for cattle annually (usually in spring)

Q: Hello, my donkey suffered an open wound to the leg and was not immunized. Will using this vaccine help prevent tetanus if it is already injured?

- A: We are so sorry to hear that your donkey has suffered an open wound to the leg. We spoke to one of our veterinarians on staff and they say that it is critical that you contact your veterinarian. Our Prestige Tetanus product is a tetanus toxoid vaccine. If your donkey has been properly vaccinated (had tetanus toxoid vaccine in the past with a subsequent booster 3-6 weeks after initial vaccination), a booster of Prestige Tetanus is recommended at the time of injury. Since it sounds like your donkey may not be properly vaccinated, your donkey should be administered a Tetanus Antitoxin product (which we don’t produce). Tetanus Antitoxin (TAT) is given to animals who have not had tetanus (toxoid) vaccination prior to an injury. The TAT will provide 2-3 weeks of temporary protection until a proper vaccination series (2 doses, 3-6 weeks apart) can be given to establish long term tetanus protection. Q: The package for the tetanus toxoid injection says to administer it intramuscularly but this page says to administer subcutaneously. Which is correct before I administer to my donkeys.

One shot worked the other the tetanus fluid came out of a bad needle. Maybe I didn't check it enough but think so. Given shots forever and never had a problem. Luckily they got their regular shots 2 weeks later.
