Q: I haven’t used my 643DAS lock in several years and now have forgotten my four letter code to open it.  How do I open it and then reset the letters for combination?

  • A: Thank you for your question! The following are the manufactures instructions for resetting the lock. Here are the instructions for changing the combination on your model 643DWD lock. This lock is preset at the factory to operate at P-L-A-Y. Decide on your new 4 letter combination - choose from suggestions or create your own. With dials at P-L-A-Y (middle of letters should be aligned with red stripe), pull out the shackle. Turn shackle 90 degree (1/4 turn) so notch on shackle is aligned with notch in lock body. Press and hold the shackle down. Set the dials to your desired combination by lining up middle of letters with red stripe. Lift shackle, return to closed position and hold shackle down while scrambling letters to lock. To re-open lock, set dials to your combination and lift shackle. Be sure to record your NEW combination as you are the only one that knows it!

Lasted less than a week...

Bought two of these locks for use at a gym. Set the combinations without issue. Used them for three days, no issues. After each use, I looped and locked it onto my backpack. On day 4, I was able to unlock it from my backpack and locked the locker. After the workout, I tried half a dozen times to open the lock, but without success. Asked the gym staff to try, but they could not do it either. The lock had to get cut off. Very disappointed.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thinner than a standard combination lock

I like that you can make your own word combinations. Mine Withstood a treacherous and gusty Los Angeles windy Santa Ana season our in a dusty dirt pasture and didn’t get dirt blown into its little crevices— I loved it so much that this is my second lock. I noticed that my second lock didn’t seem to be as hardy so let’s give it time and I’ll update this. We don’t get rain in California and very little snow, so can’t help there as far as rust and stuff. But it has done its job with my sheep playing and gnawing on it occasionally and survived the scorching Los Angeles summer.
