We used the included straps which seemed a bit loose and could not tightened enough to make us feel the rack would be secure. We used two additional ratchet tie down straps, one front and one back, and that did the trick. We also had to use some thick rubber pieces under the J Hooks as the clearance of rack was not tall enough to cover the screw clearance under the J Hooks from hitting the roof. That worked well. Our first outing was a 30 mile drive on back roads and freeways and they held up great. I had previously tried using a system that would hook onto the door frame and that was a disaster. With the suction cups (which did not damage our car) and the tie down straps, these fit the bill perfectly for our Tuscon. Removing the racks when not in use was a breeze also. Since everything is now perfectly measured, we can throw them on, tie them down and go. Shouldn't take but 10 minutes to put them back on and put our kayaks on. Once you have good ratchet tie downs, these should work well. Very happy they worked so we can take long kayak trips and have a car at the finish point that can be used to transport everything back to the car at the launch area. Take your time, measure everything, plan ahead and you should have what you need.
