Mack's Natural Reptile Food Medium Standard Mealworms offer perfect nutrition for your pet reptiles. Live mealworms are also ideal for free range poultry, live treats for wild birds, and fishing bait. Live reptile food is shipped with special packaging to ensure quality. Common Name: Standard Mealworm. Scientific Name: Tenebrio molitor.

  • Live Arrival Guaranteed - Boxes of live reptile food are packed with a 10% over-count to cover a small number of losses that may occur in shipping
  • In the winter, live mealworms may feel cold to the touch and seem lethargic or even appear to be dead; allow them to warm up slowly and avoid putting them in a hot room or directly under a heat lamp as rapid temperature changes can be harmful
  • Insects will usually recover if given time to acclimate (sometimes it will take a few hours), even if they appear dead on arrival
  • When insects are first received, they will probably have some degree of stress from shipping; open all shipping boxes and remove the insects immediately upon arrival
  • In extreme winter temperatures, your shipment may arrive with heat packs, which help to keep the insects at a safe temperature during transit, but can cause overheating if packages are left closed up after delivery
  • Easy to keep for weeks in the refrigerator as they are packed when you receive them
  • For longer storage, remove paper products from the shipping container and place worms in a plastic tub with wheat bran or oatmeal; punch holes in lid as they require lots of air
  • Every 2-3 weeks, take mealworms out of the refrigerator for 24 hours and during that time, place moist food, such as carrots, apple or lettuce, in with them - after 24 hours, take what is left of the moist food out and put them back in the refrigerator
  • If kept unrefrigerated, when mealworms run out of food, they will begin to pupate into their beetle form so that they are more mobile and can go in search of food
  • Great reptile food, fishing bait and more
  • Live insect orders ship Monday through Thursday

Q: How big is the container that will go in my fridge?  I need to know if I have enough space (have growing teenage boy....)

  • A: I have 3 dragons don’t refrigerate my worms. I divide the 2000 worms up into 4 cricket containers. First there’s a bed of oatmeal. Then the worms. On top of the worms I put left over raw vegetables that I feed the dragons. Then I put an egg crate in each container. The worms sit on top of a coffee table until all gone. I would not put the original cardboard container in my fridge. For 2000 worms, there are two containers - maybe the size of a fat tissue box.

  • A: I wouldn't think so. I don't know what the weather is like where you live but they die if they get too hot.

Q: Do the mealworms come with information about how to raise them and house them long term?

1 Answer
  • A: The shipments do come with instructions for short term and long term care. They do not have information about breeding/raising mealworms. Here is some more detailed information as well: Mealworms will last for a few weeks if kept in the refrigerator as they packed upon arrival. For longer storage they will require some extra care. Remove paper products from the shipping container and place worms in a plastic tub with wheat bran or oatmeal. Punch holes in the lid of the tub as they require lots of air. Every 2-3 weeks, take mealworms out of the refrigerator for 24 hours and during that time place moist food such as carrots, apple, or lettuce in with them. After 24 hours, take what is left of the moist food out and put them back in the refrigerator. Mealworms will reproduce if allowed to pupate to their adult beetle stage.

Mealworms

I bought them to start my own farm and to be able to sell. They are a "handful" of work but hoping we'll worth the purchase. I bought 10,000. Should have a few million eggs in a few months...
