Live mealworms are also ideal for free range poultry, live treats for wild birds, and fishing bait. Live reptile food is shipped with special packaging to ensure quality. Common Name: Standard Mealworm. Scientific Name: Tenebrio molitor. It's easy to keep for weeks in the refrigerator as they are packed when you receive them. If kept unrefrigerated, when mealworms run out of food, they will begin to pupate into their beetle form so that they are more mobile and can go in search of food.

- In the winter, live mealworms may feel cold to the touch and seem lethargic or even appear to be dead; allow them to warm up slowly and avoid putting them in a hot room or directly under a heat lamp as rapid temperature changes can be harmful

- When insects are first received, they will probably have some degree of stress from shipping; open all shipping boxes and remove the insects immediately upon arrival
