Harvest Lane Honey Live Carniolan Honey Bees (subspecies A. m. carnica) are dark with brown spots or bands and a favorite bee in the U.S. Their explosive spring buildup enables them to grow rapidly in population and take advantage of early blooms in the spring compared to other stocks. They are extremely docile and can be worked with little smoke and protective clothing. Carniolans are less prone to robbing other colonies of honey, lowering disease transmission among colonies. They thrive in colder climates and are good builders of wax combs, which can be used for products ranging from candles, to soaps and cosmetics.

Due to their rapid buildup, Carniolan bees have a high propensity to swarm (their effort to relieve overcrowding) and this could leave the beekeeper with a very poor honey crop. This stock requires continued vigilance to prevent the loss of swarms.
