I wanted to like this product

I so wanted this to be a solution for our girls when it's chilly out. Firstly, it's not high enough for them to want to roost on it, chickens like a higher up vantage point. Secondly, the metal is so cold to the touch that I don't blame them for not wanting to roost on it - they have no way of knowing that it will eventually get warm. The metal is also very slippery and I feel like the oval part should be flat, not so narrow that they lose their balance.
I am going to try to use some of the ideas posted with regard to possibly covering it with a non-skid cover and attempt to mount it in their run before I return it. We'll see how that goes. The quality is good, it seems sturdy and well made, but for this price point, I feel like it should not have all of these issues.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Does anyone know if sticky traction tape can be safely applied? Only complaint is how slippery the surface is.

This is awesome in the cold Maine winter. My four Rhode Island Blues can fit comfortably on this but sometimes they just huddle next to it. Love that it just automatically turns on when it’s cold.

A little to long to fit well in coop. Chickens took a few days to get used to it. Bought 26 in to use in coop will use 36 in in shelter in chicken run if it is cold during the day this winter.
