- A: In South Carolina perennial ryegrass will likely not come back year after year. The summers are too hot for perennial ryegrass to survive. Tall fescue or bermudagrass would potentially be a better option. There may be some selective herbicides that won't damage perennial ryegrass. Assuming I got a bag of bad seed. Purchased and laid seed down on 5/2 and there’s no activity at all as of 5/14. Have a separate area of my lawn where I put down another brand seed two days prior and it’s all nearly two inches tall. Watered everything at least 3 times a day and we’ve had some healthy amounts of rain. Big waste of money, especially when it was tagged at $69.99 in store and rang up at $149.99.
No, I do not recommend this product.

I bought this rye seed a year ago from the local Tractor Supply. After years of using so many Scotts brand seed type, this is the only one that filled in the sandy areas (close to ocean) my SE NC yard.
All other brands had less seed and more fillers.
Yes, I recommend this product.
