Really. Cheap balsa like wood. Don’t tighten the screws too much they pull right through the “wood”.

Even better than I'd hoped. I don't often write glowing recommendations of products, but this just beat my expectations from here to Sunday. This is a lightweight, mostly cedar, 3-teir planter, well suited for 6 or so herbs or other small plants. We chose herbs but considered strawberries. At first glance one might think 3 plants will fit in each planter level, but there isn't as much room for roots that way. It has plenty of room if the roots just spread out and don't require depth. Lettuce or small flowers might fit in larger numbers. I must confess I didn't assemble my planter since they were sold out when I arrived, but I snagged the one assembled for display. Despite the fact the excellent service folk telling me that I would have been able to have it assembled for me, my examination of the planter made it clear the assembly was not difficult. Minimal number of tools (hand tools would work) as well as minimal experience. The design is very good for stability and weight distribution while remaining lightweight. Each level is a separate planter "v-shaped" when viewed from the end, making a simple trough with a support wall in the center that divides it into 2 areas. I was suspicious as to whether the drain holes cut into the wood would suffice, but they do well. Unlike some multi-teired planters we've had, they do not drain onto the teirs below, and I plan to use them to also run some small cubes up to provide timed irrigation as well as drainage. The frame that supports the 3 "modules: at first seemed inadequate to me, but when I replaced each piece in the frame, I discovered they fit quite snuggly and created an exceptionally solid setup wile remaining lightweight. So far the thing has stood some pretty high wind this spring, holding on while some lawn furniture actually decided to travel around. I would find it a great buy even if some storm eventually took it out, though. It has already stood against more than expected. I suspect we will buy more. I can think of a number of different situations it would be an excellent fit for.
