Q: Does this need a pressure valve with it or does it come with one built in?

  • A: Hi, Here is the information we received from the vendor- The HP-90 Hand Pump does not need a pressure valve. It does have an anti-siphon vent on the top of the pump.

Q: Is the pvc suction pipe long enough to use this in a 55 gal barrel? How long is the suction pipe when fully extended?

Q: can't get this hand pump to prime. please advise....

A: Good morning, In regards to the HP-90 not priming. There are several factors to consider, when something like this happens. 1) Check the anti-siphon valve. (little black looking button). You will take a putty knife, or flat edge, and pop that off to check. Next screw the plug out of the housing. check the umbrella valve for debris, and clean with WD-40, also check to make sure the O-ring is past the threads. 2) You need to use this pump with the hose it came with, and an open ended nozzle. Nothing should be blocking the nozzle. 3) Check all of your wetted seals. (under cover plates). 4) Make sure that the suction pipe, is not touching the very bottom of the fuel tank. It needs to be 2" above the bottom. Please contact us, if this does not resolve your issue. Thank you, Tyler

Q: Does this pump have a way to lock it with a paddle lock? I have a tank in the back of my truck and need to prevent theft issues, or at least provide a deterrent...

1 Answer
  • GPI Inside Sales
A: It does not, but you could remove the clevis pin and hitch clip from the handle and store it within your truck or wherever when not using the hand pump and no one would be able to use the pump. That would be my best suggestion for you otherwise you could probably drill a hole out in the handle and make your own lock of some sort. I hope that helps. Thank you, GPI sales team.

Q: Would this pump work to pump round-up out of a 30 gallon barrel? Is it designed for that type of chemical?

1 Answer
  • GPI Inside Sales
A: No, the HP-90 would not be a good pump for round-up; however, our model HP-100-C item 114000-11 would work. You will have to special order this item, but TSC can get it. If you need further assistance or have any questions let us know! Thank you, GPI sales team.

Q: Can a filter be installed for diesel fuel?

1 Answer
  • GPI Inside Sales
A: We do not recommend filters with the hand pump because the hand pump does not put out enough pressure. However, you can install a strainer in-line, but note it will require maintenance depending on how often you use the pump and how dirty your fuel or tank is.

Not good.

I bought this pump in haste last winter to replace a 20 year old Tuthill electric pump that had been in service refueling equipment that whole time outdoors. This pump was only used infrequently as it was at home, yet the cheezy "S" connector snapped rather quickly and I had to make my own connector to fix that. Mine was double shear... unlike their idea with the "s" that bends back and forth until failure. The number of pumps before prime kept increasing with each use until now, a little less than a year later, it is worthless. Will not prime even after you have pumped until both arms fall off. The shaft seal packing is the issue. Bubbles can be seen around the packing. If you ever did get it primed, fuel would leak around that shaft as others have pointed out. I just ordered another tuthill hand pump identical to the one that has been on our 2000gal tank for over 30 YEARS! Buy something ELSE.

Take your chances....

I have purchased two of these pumps. The one purchased nearly 10 years ago for a 55 gallon gas drum still works wonderfully, although the S ring attachment of the pull handle is badly worn and sloppy. Unfortunately, my 2 year pump on my 55 gal diesel drum has been slow to prime from the beginning and now doesn't prime at all. I don't know if the problem with these pumps is the type of fuel or overall quality but for the price I am very disappointed in the second pumps longevity.

Yes, I recommend this product.
