Works well and light weight. The flare at the end

I bought mine a year ago and have used it log hounding and I enjoy splitting and stacking my own firewood. Then the last inch broke. I sent a photo of it and was hoping for a warranty service. It been 6 weeks and no tangible results except for a confirmation number and 'wait'.

We didn't just use it, we abused it

I'm not sure what level of use they designed this tool for, I'm sure it's not intended as an industrial grade tool, but it should be. My brother runs his own Arborist business in Western Washington State, we got this tool to help us move logs and bucked rounds and firewood. We figure since he's cutting the trees, and plenty of folks want us to haul the wood away, we might as well split it up and sell it for firewood. Well, the Pacific Northwest grows some crazy big trees, and we have used this hookaroon to move plenty of them. Frankly, we didn't just use it, we abused it. Used it to pull, roll, drag, even lift logs up to 15 feet long averaging between 3 and 6 feet wide. We used it in all weather, including freezing temps. Honestly, it broke twice on us. First break while we were using it to lever up a 6 foot long 5 foot wide piece of beech from a huge old growth tree, lost about 4 cm, or 1.5 inches off the tip of the spike. That was about a year after purchase. The tool sat around the property unused and outside for around 5 more years until I moved back, found it, and took a grinder to it, putting a new point on what remained of the spike. Surprisingly, the other than the break, the tool was still in excellent condition, not even a hint of rust on the metal despite 5 years of neglect in the PNW rain. The second break occurred after several more months of use, during a severe cold snap. While spiking a frozen Madrona log in sub freezing temps, the metal finally sheared off, a clean snap removing almost 90% of the exposed metal spike. I know it sounds like I'm giving a bad review, but I'm not, this tool put up with use and abuse way beyond what I believe Fiskars designed it to handle, and it finally gave up the ghost in extreme circumstances. For the average light or medium duty user, this thing will last a lifetime. It's lightweight, easy to control, picks up split and log rounds with ease, and is long enough that even a tall guy like me at 6'1" has zero difficulty reaching even the thinnest splits or kindling on the ground around the splitting stump. Frankly, even now, with the metal spike gone, the handle, even where it connects to the spike, is still absolutely solid, no cracks, no looseness, just a few scratches from missed strikes or other abuse(like using it to lever 1000+ lb log rounds into a trailer). Right now, my funds are crazy tight, but soon as I'm able to, I plan to get another one of these. It may have broken, but that's on me and mine, and how we abused this tool. Final judgement....excellent tool, top notch quality, worth every penny.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Broken Tip

Bought this at the end of last summer. It worked great until the tip broke off. Aluminum is not the way to go with these apparently!!

Sorry to hear the tip broke. That’s not the experience we’d expect. If you believe this is due to a manufacturing defect, you can file a claim through our warranty process: https://www.fiskars.com/en-us/customer-service/warranties
