Famotidine Oral Suspension USP is a prescription stomach ulcer treatment for cats and dogs. A generic version of the brand Pepcid, famotidine works by reducing stomach acid production, helping to heal and prevent ulcers. It can also help manage gastritis, esophagitis and reflux. Dogs with kidney disease may be prescribed famotidine as well to help control certain symptoms of their illness. Famotidine is a drug that heals and prevents ulcers. It is part of the class of histamine receptor 2 blockers. It works by preventing the secretion of gastric acid through the blockage of H-2 receptors. Gastric acid is secreted when H-2 receptors exist in the cells of the stimulated stomach cells. This ultimately leads to the healing of ulcers by preventing the secretion of gastric acid.

Special Precautions

This medication should be kept from both animals and children. Medications like Ketoconazole and Digoxin are known to cause interaction with Famotidine.

Use caution when giving this medication to pets with heart, kidney, and liver disease. Always consult a veterinarian prior to your pet being given Famotidine.
