Not worth the price

The design was very odd. When you tilt it to move, the engine is on the bottom! The baffles on the 3" feed tube don't block pieces from being thrown back out at the operator. When I fed material into the hopper, the machine pulled the stuff in so quickly that I hardly had time to let go without getting my arm yanked down towards the bottom of the hopper.
Though the material was chipped pretty nicely, I returned the machine because it felt unsafe to use. Not worth almost $1000!

This is and does exactly what I wanted it to do. I had to order it, so it took a while to be delivered to the store. But it was worth the wait. The folks at Tractor Supply did a great job at setting everything up for the purchase. They even loaded it when it arrived.

If a branch/stick is straight and fits into the chipper opening, it'll get chipped, but that's about all that works on this thing. Shredder is useless. I tried anything from a thin branch full of leaves (will rip out of your and take some time to shred then clog) or a hand full of leaves or hay (will clog in the chute and never make it to the blades). I spent more time in disassembly and unclogging then usage. It has a big top hopper that drops into a what, 2"x4" opening? No shutoff, you have to either turn off the fuel valve or pull the spark plug wire. If you're going to cut holes in the metal and call it a handle, add some rolled metal or cushion, this thing is hard to move around.

When using the chipper, ensure you are feeding material into the chute slowly, that your branches are free of twigs, and are 1.5"-3" inches in diameter. If you are experiencing clogs in either the chipper or shredder, it helps to alternate between dry and wet/green material. Another trick to remove clogs is to chip a 1" branch to loosen any stuck material. On the first attempt it did well. I was satisfied with most of it and the way it worked.
I did have to take the chipper chute off to fill and check the oil, so that is a major problem both now and the future. The shredder hopper has a very stiff rubber guard and you have to feed leaves slowly or it doesn't feed properly.
I'm satisfied overall, but let me get back to you in a year.

There are instructions/ tips within the owner's manual on how to navigate filling, checking, and draining the oil which should not require the removal of the chipper chute - primarily, a funnel will be required. Crankshaft Shattered

The good: the chipper part works great!
The bad: the shredder is totally worthless.
The horrible: we had this unit for 26 months. Used it approximately 6 times and have been very careful to not overload the machine when chipping. On the last use the end of the crankshaft of the Briggs and Stratton engine shattered. Tractor Supply says it a DR Problem and to contact them. DR so far says they won’t do anything except sell us another engine.
The engine warranty is 24 months. I recommend staying away from DR products, especially any that have Briggs and Stratton engines.

Got it home unpacked it and either the store broke the assembly bad or they left some small nuts and bolt in the bottom which was impossible to see in the bottom of the hopper. New blades Pretty much trashed on startup. 30 days warranty was gone because I didn’t have an immediate use for the chipper due to weather.

Is is easy to use and this is the first time we cleaned off our garden so fast! I always cut up the corn and sunflower stalks by hand and this year wow the chipper shredder did all the work plus it is so fine just like dirt after it shreds everything. We are so pleased we bought it and so happy the manager had one that just came in and we were able to buy it.

3 stars... only because it doesnt actually chip up to 3 inch branches. Ive tried hard wood, soft wood, dead wood and greenwood. 1.5 inches is your max or it shuts the chipper off. Other complaint is the hopper is so small you have to cut limbs until they are almost perfectly straight or it wont go into the chipper. Other than that it works pretty good.

Gets clogged easily and wont turn over when it does I returned it because the second time I used it it locked up and wouldn’t turn over plus you had to pull spark plug wire to get it to stop when you do get it started. Have other DR products I love and customer service is great.

Great Chipper. Got it sfter purchasing a home that had a yard full of neglect. Went through branched and sticks up to 3" diameter . Used it 3 days straight. Made enough wood chips to fill the box the chipper came in.

Quality machine, started right up does everything as advertised. One minor issue it is very difficult to add oil to this engine. My chipper came with a waterlogged manual, which I had to discard. Still looking for a manual.

Poor design

Spark system is poorly designed. The cutoff is activated by the throttle lever. It doesn't reconnect securely after shutdown. If left in the off position the metal on the switch will bend and not reconnect. This has happened to me several times. It has happened as quick as when shutdown overnight.

chipper/shredder works good. The chipper side takes 2 inch branches easily. Anything larger the engine has a tendency to choke. Chips are actually smaller than chips produced by larger professional chippers. The shredder side is a bit finicky feeding small branches. Overall a good machine

This unit works pretty good overall as long as you are patient. The chipper is great and works flawlessly. The shredder has to be fed slowly and has to have time to clear itself out, otherwise it will clog up immediately. The engine can be a mother whopper to get started if you don't shut the fuel off and run the carburetor dry after each use.

While some say this is under powered I have find it will handle up to 3" hardwood fine so long as you feed it slowly.
