Trailer Ball Loose

Purchased this Ballmount kit to use with our new RV. On the trip I noticed that the ball had rotated clockwise about 45 degrees. Turns out the locknut on the ball was broken -and the nut was loose. The torque on these 2 5/16" balls is 450 ft.lbs. Since safety is a top priority, I purchased a new nut and washer -along with a torque wrench large enough to handle 450 ft. lbs. I should have just returned it to Tractor Supply - but though this was the first time I used the hitch, I was outside the Return period. The lesson here is -dont assume that because its a factory torqued nut that its is as tight as it should be. This could have resulted in a tragic accident.

worked well had a little hitch rattle towed a 18ft car trailer empty and then with a ford econoline e250. 80miles there and back160miles through boston. receiver seems to stick out further than my other hitches gives a better tight turn ability without sacrificing load carrying and towing
