Geared Hand Winch Review

In truth, I have not implemented this winch, yet, but I do have the following to state: 1) Instructions that came with winch say this is not a lifting device--but a pulling device only. Did not see this on the web for this item. Don't think I missed this. I plan on using it to lift and lower a bird feeder, so I am nowhere close to the load rating on device, so not worried I am using it for a purpose it was not designed for--even if that had been listed on the web. 2) There are several items included in the box with winch that are NOT depicted nor described in instructions. Specifically, two cotter pins, a sleeve and a pin. Presumably, the pin is held in place by the 2 cotter pins, and the larger pin goes through the sleeve. The absence of these items in the instructions, however, forces this to be an educated guess. I'd rather know than guess. Fix the instructions.

Cheap yes, built to last even a little while...no. I bought and installed this winch on my little aluminum boat's trailer, the boat weighs 350 Lbs, if I used the boat eight times since the new winch was put on that's a lot. The last time I went to retrieve it from the water the directional switch/lock stopped working altogether, luckily I have a chain to lock down the front of the boat.
