The Baytril (Enrofloxacin) Purple Coated Tablet is an easy-to-use treatment option for bacterial infections. Commonly prescribed to cats and dogs, Baytril is effective against a variety of infections, including urinary tract, skin, prostate, GI tract, liver and lung. It comes in a chewable tablet form that appeals to most pets. Follow directions closely for best results. Available in both 22.7 mg and 68 mg strengths.
- Rx only
- Available in 22.7 mg and 68 mg strengths
- Antibiotic designed to treat bacteria-susceptible infections in cats and dogs
- Typically indicated for urinary tract, skin, prostate, GI tract, liver and lung infections
- May also be prescribed to other animals besides cats and dogs if your veterinarian deems it appropriate
- Chewable film-coated tablet that's administered orally
- Includes a single Baytril tablet
- When overdosed (10 times recommended dosage), diarrhea and vomiting could occur. This effect is unlikely at recommended dosage.
- Dogs who have pseudomonas ear infections require extremely high doses. In these cases, nausea could become an issue.
- Joint cartilage damage could occur in immature dogs (under the age of 8 months). This is only experienced by growing dogs and is not an issue in cats. It is not recommended to use this medication in puppies unless the severity of the infection warrants it.
- This medication could produce urine crystals, which could show up on a lab test. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the potential for this reaction. Crystals caused by this medication should not be confused with more clinically relevant urate, oxalate, or struvite crystals.
