Special Precautions

- Helps treat certain bacterial infections in cats and dogs
- Effective for throat infections, skin infections, lung infections, ear infections, sexually transmitted diseases, pneumonia and bronchitis
- Works as a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth
- Single 600 mg Azithromycin tablet
- Azithromycin should not be administered to patients with a history of sensitivity to macrolides, have liver disease, or are taking cisapride.
- Patients taking antacids could experienced reduced absorption rates.
- Hepatic enzyme inhibitors could alter metabolization of this medication.
- Sucralfate could decrease the effects of this drug, and cyclosporine could increase blood levels.
- Vomiting may be experienced at higher doses, but is not as frequently reported as it is with erythromycin.
- Overdose presents as abdominal cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea.
